34 BREAKTHROUGH III

Agust of wind swept from the dense thicket of woods, carrying the crisp aroma of nature to where Alex and Su Mau sat. The whisper of foliage in the wind added a moody backdrop, while Su Mau’s kiss on Alex’s lips brought a touch of sweetness to the moment.

“If you are done eating my lips, we can start the cultivation,” Su Mau whispered while lightly pushing him away. There was hesitation in her movement—the hesitation of a lover torn between desire and the need for time. He could sense it through her warm touch and longing gaze.

“I was just appreciating your knowledge.” Laughing softly, he shifted away and settled beneath a sturdy oak that gave off the scent of rough bark and sun-warmed wood. He was feeling stuffed from the inside, and a deep kiss lightened his mood.

Closing his eyes, Alex let the cool air of the forest enter his lungs and calm down his raging pulse. Sharing a kiss with Su Mau had set it pounding like a drum, and he needed to calm down if he wanted to break through. Resisting the urge to devour her was getting more impossible with every passing moment, and he had to get stronger to make her his. He had no other option. Otherwise, he might just break his promise, and he would hate to do that with Elder Su.

“Foundation Realm, here I come.”

Pushing all thoughts aside, he focused on his breath. Using his previous training to enter the Soul Cryo Tank, he quickly calmed his breath. Cultivating to a higher layer meant discovering one’s true nature within, and finding inner calm was the key to unlocking that potential.

Qi Cycling and Qi Gathering were two stages of the cultivation. As soon as he calmed his heart a bit, Qi Gathering kicked in on its own, attracting the surrounding qi. Like a black hole, he started sucking in the qi from the surroundings, and soon it flew into him like a river entering the sea. The energy flowed like a swarm of insects summoning its kin. Within moments, his reserves swelled, reaching capacity in a fraction of the usual time.

It was time to drink potions and enter the next stage.

One by one, Alex gulped down four bubbling potions. The dark brew had a flavor like dirt mixed with cocoa, and he’d never been fond of overly sweet drinks. But as the liquid settled in his gut, the taste became tolerable, and he sensed a surge of power flowing into his dantian.

It clashed with his qi, tried to mix with it, but those were different types of qi, so they couldn’t mix together. To convert it into his own qi, he had to pass it through his qi pathway.

Taking a deep breath, he guided the new energy he had accumulated near his heart after killing people. It had entered him but hadn’t entered his dantian. Instead, it had been accumulating near his heart in a separate space. After drinking potions, he had suddenly gotten an insight into how to do that.
